ISIS beheading, stoning and crucifying Syrian residents, UN report says<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ISIS is beheading and stoning men, women and children in Syria, leaving crucified bodies in public squares for days and engaging in rape and torture, according to a new U.N. report released Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report, entitled the \u201cRule of Terror: Living under ISIS in Syria\u201d, gathers information from 300 interviews with men, women and children who fled or who are living in ISIS-controlled areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cISIS has beheaded, shot and stoned men, women and children in public spaces in towns and villages across northeastern Syria,\u201d states the report, written by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To combat the atrocities, the panel recommends cutting off the supply of weapons that ISIS receives, giving psychosocial support to children associated with armed groups and providing specialized medical services to support victims of sexual violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One witness to the killing of a 16-year-old boy in Al-Ashara said the boy\u2019s body was hung on a cross in a public square \u201cfor people to see what it looks like to be punished by ISIS.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the UN panel, ISIS informs residents of the times and places of the killings and urged them to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFollowing the killings, the corpses are placed on public display, often on crosses, for up to three days, serving as a warning to local residents,\u201d the report states. \u201cWitnesses saw scenes of still-bleeding bodies hanging from crosses and of heads placed on spikes along park railings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to the report, IMAN Chairman, Ribal Al-Assad said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am horrified and appalled to read this report, it is truly a disturbing read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ordinary Syrians have been subjected to the most appalling torture, harassment and murder at the hands of these animals; these are crimes against humanity and those responsible must face the full force of the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This report also highlights the urgent need to confront the extremists and bring about an end to this conflict; the only way this can happen is if a diplomatic solution to the conflict is pursued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All those who have a genuine belief in freedom and democracy -and are willing to commit to it- should be brought together for dialogue on a way forward; there can be absolutely no place for extremists at the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With every day that goes by more and more Syrian people are being subjected to the horrors dished out by Islamists; this has to end.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
