Ribal Al-Assad, Director of the ODFS, this week had a meeting with Mr Alexander Alvaro MEP, Vice-President of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg. They had a comprehensive discussion about the Syrian conflict.

The meeting was a part of a series of meetings that Ribal had with senior members of the European Parliament.

Commenting on the meeting, Ribal, said:

“I was delighted and honoured to meet with Mr. Alvaro again. I stressed the urgent need for both sides in the Syrian conflict to halt the violence to avert an all out civil war. The only way forward is for diplomacy to be given a chance leading to a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic political transition in Syria. Therefore the EU must pressure the regime, the opposition and their outside backers into supporting diplomacy.

“Also it is vital for all the Syrian opposition to unite onto one platform and speak with one voice. So it is imperative that the international community including the EU facilitates this process. I look forward to working with Mr Alvaro and the European Parliament to achieve this.”
