On the 5th September, Director of the ODFS, Ribal Al-Assad has met with Senator Jacques Gautier, Vice-President of the French Senate’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces committee, at the French Senate to discuss the situation in Syria.

He spoke about his concerns over proposed military strikes in Syria and warned against unilateral action which would not only strengthen Islamist extremists but could lead to regional war.

He reiterated the need for the International Community to wait until the conclusion of the U.N Chemical Weapon Report before taking any action. He also stated that no military intervention should take place without the full and unequivocal backing of the United Nations Security Council.

Ribal stressed the importance of finding a political solution to the conflict with all parties who genuinely believe in freedom and democracy.
