Ribal Al-Assad, Director of the ODFS, this week had a meeting with Mr. Fiorella Provera MEP, Vice-Chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee. They had a comprehensive discussion about the Syrian conflict.

Das Treffen war Teil einer Reihe von Treffen, die Ribal mit hochrangigen Mitgliedern des Europäischen Parlaments abhielt.

Kommentierend zu dem Treffen sagte Ribal:

“I was delighted and honoured to meet with Mr. Provera. I stressed the urgent need for both sides in the Syrian conflict to halt the violence to avert an all out civil war. The only way forward is for diplomacy to be given a chance leading to a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic political transition in Syria. Therefore the EU must pressure the regime, the opposition and their outside backers into supporting diplomacy.

“Also it is vital for all the Syrian opposition to unite onto one platform and speak with one voice. So it is imperative that the international community including the EU facilitates this process. I look forward to working with Mr. Provera and the European Parliament to achieve this.”
